ABSTRACT
It is important to recognize and meet the anesthesiologist differences geriatric patients and younger, to undergo anesthetic and surgical procedures, identifying anatomical and physiological changes which modify the anesthesia practice. In the United States, 40 million people underwent surgery and 14.7 million were 65 or age more in 2000.
Materials and methods: Upon approval of the Local Research Committee and Ethics of Specialties CMN Hospital UMAE «Siglo XXI», Controlled clinical trial capturing 50 patients randomly divided into two groups, group 1, 60 to 90 years and group 2, 20 to 59 years was designed old. Was measured: percentage of oxygen saturation, electrocardiographic tracing on D11, biespectral index, sevorane intake and fentanyl, in patients maintaining adequate anesthetic level for blood pressure surgical stimulus.
Results: The measurement of blood pressure, heart rate and biespectral Index oxygen saturation was similar between groups. Consumption was sevorane 29.55 ± 11 mL in group 1 and group 2 consumption was 35.89 ± 10.45 mL against (p ≤ 0.05) and consumption of narcotics was for group 1, 276.48 ± 68, with relationship 325.50 ± 86 (p = 0.02 ) in group 2.
Conclusions: The consumption of fentanyl and sevorane was lower in patients 60 to 90 years and greater in patients 20 to 59 years to maintain hemodynamic stability and Biespectral Index between 40-50%.
