ABSTRACT
Introduction: In patients with cerebrovascuslar diseases, electrocardiographic
complications are clinically important because they represent adverse prognosis for
these patients.
Objective: Identify major electrographic manifestations observed during acute phase
of schemic stroke.
Methods: a retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study for case series was
conducted. It included all patients with ischemic CVD, admitted in the neuro-intensives
care units of the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery and the Special
Care Unit of Calixto Garcia Hospital, from January 2002 to September 2011.
Results: 58,5 % of these patients had complications. The age rate was 65. Most of
the sichemic stroke cases was in patients aging 61 and 70. The total of these cases
was 73 (36,5 %). There were 47 patients (23,5 %) aging 51 and 60. The most
frequent electrocardiograph alteration turned to be sinus tachycardia (52,5 %)
seconded by extrasystoles. Flat or inverted T wave was the third frequent complication
(25,5 %).
Conclusions: In the acute phase of ischemic stroke, functional complications of
cardiac chrontropism are more frequent than myocardium structural alterations. The
etiology of stroke does not influence the risk of cardiovascular alterations during the
acute phase. The existence of prior heart disease is a risk factor for the occurrence of
cardiovascular alterations during the acute phase of stroke, and it is more frequent in
male patients.
