ABSTRACT
Background: Menstrual disorders are a common complaint among
teenager and causes about 50% of queries in this age group. In most
cases due to immaturity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis,
being anovulation the main clinical manifestation.
Objective: To identify menstrual disorders in teenage patients attending
to comprehensive care consultation at the Hospital Regional Lic.
Adolfo Lopez Mateos.
Patients and method: A retrospective study was performed in the comprehensive
care clinic for Adolescents from the Hospital Regional Adolfo
Lopez Mateos, since January 1
st2012 to January 1
st 2013. Outstanding
data were reviewed of clinical records.
Results: The main cause of consultation in 68 patients (76%) was menstrual
cycle disorder. Opsomenorrhea was the most frequent manifestation
in 47 patients (69.1%), followed by polymenorrhea in 15 patients
(22%). In 9 patients (10%) high levels of prolactin were found.
Conclusions: The study shows that clinical manifestations observed in the
population from the Comprehensive Care Clinic for Adolescent resemble
those reported in the literature as the causes of consultation and main
menstrual disorders. Results from serum hormone levels is interesting
regarding the type of expected hormone, since no hyperprolactinemia
index had been so far reported for these patients.
