Modificaciones bioquímicas e inmunológicas en ratas desnutridas moderadamente

ABSTRACT
Rationale: Changes occurring in patient’s body composition due to energy nutrient derivation might result in biochemical and immunological alterations distorting the natural response of the host during the health-illness process.
Study design: Changes occurred in Lymphocytes Total Counts (TLC), and the serum values of Total
proteins, Albumin and Cholesterol, were recorded on 20 Wistar male rats at 3 and 5 weeks after weaning, which were fed with 75% of the species-specific nutrient requirements. Observed values in malnourished rats were
compared with those observed in another 20 well-fed ones.
Results: Serum values of Total proteins, Albumin and Cholesterol were lower in the malnourished rats on any of the different times of observation, without reaching statisticals ignificance. However, TLC were significantly lower as the nutrient deprivation prolonged.
Conclusions: Energy nutrient restriction
significantly affects the status of the animal’s
immune system.
