ABSTRACT
Homeobox genes encode
proteins named transcription
factors, which are responsible
for regulating gene
transcription by binding to
different genes to promote
or block their expression.
Deregulation of transcription
factors is related to various
neoplastic processes.
MEIS1
gene encoding the transcription
factor of the same name,
participates in the early stages
of hematopoiesis, maintaining
stem cells in undifferentiated
state and favoring its
proliferation. Overexpression
of
MEIS1 gene accelerates the
development of hematological
malignancies and is also a poor
prognostic factor in patients
with leukemia.
