ABSTRACT
Recurrent abortion (RA) is the
loss of two or more pregnancies
before 20 weeks of gestation.
The RA can be attributed
to several causes such as
endocrine, genetic, anatomical
and immunological factors,
among others. Although various
etiological factors are well
established, in 50 % of cases of
RA cause is unknown. Previous
investigations have associated
some cytokines to RA. Tumor
necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α)
is a proinflammatory cytokine
related in previous studies to
RA, and involvement in early
stage of pregnancy. -308 G›A
(rs1800629) and -238 G›A
(rs361525) polymorphisms
have been described in the
promoter region of TNF-α gene.
The present work is a review
from previous reports of the
association of the -308 G›A and
-238 G›A polymorphisms in
the promoter region of TNF-α
gen and RA.
