A massage combined with acupuncture in the lumbar pain: a preliminary study

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Lumbar pain constitutes the first world wide problem to attend a medical consultation and, at the some time, one of the main causes of absence to work of people between 25 and 60 years old.
Objective: evaluate the benefits of the use of combined massage with acupuncture in the treatmen of lumbar pain in patients treated at Hospital Provincial Docente de Rehabilitación "Dr. Faustino Pérez Hernández". Sancti Spíritus, Cuba.
Method: a sample of 50 patients of both sexs was included, these patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Different test were applied such as the structured interview, the numbered pain scale and frequency of pain crisis before and after the treatment. In the different therapeutics the massage and acupuncture excel.
Results: after applying the combined treatment significant changes in the degree and intensity of pain were found. Tuina massage and acupuncture are techniques of the bioenergetic medicine that balance the energy of the body and restore health. The frequency of the crisis varies and the intensity of the pain diminishes with these therapies.
Conclusion: tuina massage combined with acupuncture is effective in the treatment of lumbar pain.
