ABSTRACT
It was performed a descriptive transversal research at Manuel de Jesus Cedeño Stomatological University Clinic in Bayamo during the period October, 2008 to May, 2009, with the objective to cephalometrically determine wether there is a possibility or not of eruption of the third upper or lower molars determining the available space. The universe was made by 168 patients that also represented the sample and received care in the Orthodoncy Service during the afore- mentioned period and the ages between 10 and 13 years old. The information was gathered in a model designed for this purpose with variables of interest. There were determined the available spaces according to the Vertical Pterigoidea- Second Upper molar and Xi (mandibular centroid point)- Second Lower molar to determine the future location of the third upper and lower molars. The results were processed, analyzed and exposed in charts. The category of the retained for third upper molars prevailed (89.3%) and the lower ones (75.0%), with no differences regarding sex in the upper molars, and the male sex prevailed in the lower molars. The ages were evidenced in this same condition in 12 year- old children for upper molars and 10 years for the lower ones.
