ABSTRACT
With the appearance of the antibiotics, se ems the struggle against infectious diseases was win, however, nowadays the more frequent bacteria develop resistance and provoke infections for which there are not therapeutical options. In Intensive Care Units (ICU) increase the frequency of multi-resistant germs and an increase of patients presenting with risk factors of infection and sepsis. The selection of resistant bacteria, the increase of population’s survival, the use of invasive techniques, the use of immunosuppressive drugs and the belief of that the advantages of antibiotic-therapy exceeds its potential risks, are some of the factors worsening the situation. Sepsis in the critical care environment suppose a challenge for countries with limited resources and for those developed. Morbidity and mortality due a severe sepsis and septic shock in most of these hospital centers remain high and practically invariable. From the speed to made the diagnosis and implementation of therapy, will depend of the final result. The objective of present paper is to approach the problem of antimicrobials use seen from the optic of a polyvalent intensive therapy in a third care level hospital.
