ABSTRACT
The development of genetic manipulation techniques has enabled the acceleration of several natural processes that otherwise would have required extended periods of time for their completion, or have never occurred spontaneously. This has been achieved through insertion of foreign deoxy-ribonucleic acid into hosting organisms, resulting in new variations of the metabolism of the receiving-species. In this present work (the first of a trilogy) some of the
relevant methodologies used for obtaining genetically modified organisms in plants and animals are shown, their main features are commented, and examples are presented of their uses and applications.
