ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the relationship between study habits, psychological well-being, depression and family dynamics with academic
performance in students of a surgeon's career and identify the factors mentioned the main predictors of academic performance.
Material
and Methods: Random sample, 225 students participated in a surgeon's career, the 2007 generation of the School of Advanced Studies
"Iztacala" of the UNAM. The sample was divided into two groups according to their academic status: regular and irregular. It alican five
instruments: Questionnaire for the Study Habits of Brown-Holtzman), proof of Psychological Well-Being (Riff, 1989) Depression Scale
Center for Epidemiologic Studies (CES-D) Scale to assess the Cohesion and Adaptation family (FACES III).
Results: In analyzing the
data by multiple linear regression model, we found a coefficient of determination r2 = .064 and the analysis of variance was significant (F
= 2158, p ‹.05) only the variables of self-acceptance (t = -2122, p ‹.05) and Purpose of life (t = 2635, p .01). Which means, that the latter
variables may be important predictors of academic performance.
Conclusions: We found a statistically significant positive correlation
between GPA and three subcategories of Welfare (Personal Growth, Purpose of life and autonomy). It also identified a positive
correlation for the group of regular students and study skills, specifically in the subscales of Organization for the Study, and Study Skills
Total score study habits.
