ABSTRACT
In the middle of the last century, the discovery of neurogenesis in some species has allowed a better understanding of brain plasticity and the origin of several neurodegenerative diseases. Currently we can define neurogenesis as the generation of new neurons from the integration and differentiation of progenitor cells. Furthermore, it is possible to differentiate between the modulating factors, such as norepinephrine (NE) and gamma amino butyric acid (GABA), as well as some conditions and events such as learning and sensory stimulation through rich environment model. However, little is known about the benefits or drawbacks (such as carcinogenesis) that may cause the generation of new neurons. So their study results from great relevance as a therapeutic tool to allow regeneration of the cells that promote repair of brain damage or to detect any early development of pathology.
