Modulación de la generación de nuevas neuronas en el cerebro del adulto

RESUMEN
A mediados del siglo pasado, el descubrimiento de la neurogénesis en algunas especies ha permitido comprender
mejor la plasticidad cerebral y el origen de algunas enfermedades neurodegenerativas. Actualmente, podemos
definir a la neurogénesis como la generación de nuevas neuronas a partir de la diferenciación e integración de las
células progenitoras. Además es posible diferenciar entre algunos factores que la modulan, tales como la noradrenalina
(NA) y el ácido gama-aminobutírico (GABA), así como también algunas patologías y eventos como lo es el aprendizaje y la estimulación sensorial por medio del modelo de ambiente rico. Sin embargo, aún se conoce poco a cerca de los beneficios o inconvenientes (como la carcinogénesis) que pueda causar la generación de nuevas neuronas. Por lo que su estudio resulta de gran relevancia como herramienta terapéutica que permita la regeneración de las células que promuevan la reparación de daño cerebral o bien que permita detectar un desarrollo temprano de alguna patología.
