Chronic rupture of the patellar tendon in an adolescent: case report

ABSTRACT
The most obvious function of the quadriceps group is the extension of the knee, but its main physiological function is to slow knee flexion during the initial phase of the march through eccentric contraction. The patellar tendon can be injured and diagnosed in an acute or chronic. In adolescents and young adults the omission of diagnosis can be of 38% of poly-trauma, obesity, hemarthrosis or repeated microtrauma. Thirteen year old female with diagnosed failure patellar tendon rupture three months. Clinically ambulation left limping, inability to actively extend left knee, and left Galeazzi. Radiographically with left Salvati index 2.7 Insall, right 1.2. Elongation is performed quadriceps reconstruction by «V-Y» plasty, application semitendinosus and gracilis graft, modified cerclage (transpatellar). Immobilization for six weeks, bending gradual rehabilitation subsequently muscle power. At six months postoperative ambulation without claudication, flexion 130° 0° active extension, Galeazzi sign negative assessment International Knee Documentation Committee, preoperative C and postoperative B.
