Performance IQ in children with and without language disorder with the Wechsler scale

ABSTRACT
Introduction. The categories of language are phonology, semantics, syntax, morphology and pragmatic. Various psychometric tests are used to evaluate the impact of language disorders in the individual development, including Wechsler Intelligence Scale and the Initial Language Test.
Material and methods. We compared the verbal IQ, executive IQ and total IQ in normal children with Wechsler scale, but based on clinical evaluation and in the Initial Language Test were classified as children without language disorders and children with language disorders.
Results. Comparing the scores between the groups of verbal IQ, executive IQ and total IQ and the three control groups (control group, language problem group and phonological problem group) were found significant differences, despite the scores were within the normal range. In the post hoc group with language problems differed significantly in the three scales with respect to control, the phonological disorder group presented significant differences from control group in the verbal scale, with no significant differences with the group with language problem and phonological disorder.
Conclusion. Children with phonological disorder and with language problems have more problems in their intellectual development and will need more support compared to children without language problems.
