ABSTRACT

The condition recognized as arteriovenous fistula (AVF), indicating an abnormal communication between an artery anda vein is review. An overview about historical background, including etiology, pathophysiology, location, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment is presented. The chief reason for surgically closing AVF is the prevention of lethal complications; actually endovascular manage ment has been successful in many instances.
