ABSTRACT
Introduction: To evaluate the quality of medical care received from the perspective of the user is becoming common practice. To improve the quality of care for pregnant teens is of great relevance considering the impact of this condition in the relationship between a mother and itschild. This study shows that it’s possible to better the satisfaction perception ofmedical care and interpersonal attention received in the institution by the use of an integral health educative model.
Material and Methods: It was an intervention study, semi-experimental, longitudinal and prospective, where the patients acted as their own controllers. The universe was formed by 107 teenagers 14 to 19 years old, from a low socioeconomic environment that had no social security. They attended to the Clínica de Atención Integral a la Adolescencia del Hospital General O’Horán between December 2003 and May 2004, and were given a set of questions about dignified care before and after participating on an integral healtheducative model.
Results: 76 pregnant teenagers aging between 14 to 19 years old were interviewed, from which 61 completed the study 82%. There were 137 interviews in total and 16 workshops; as well as 122 medical and 118 psychologicalconsultations.
On the initial poll, 15 youngsters expressed to be very satisfied with the quality of the medical care they had received up to that point 24.59% and 35 expressed to be satisfied 57.37%. In relation to the interpersonal attention received 11 said it was very good 18.03 and 44 that it was good 72.13%.
The results after the application of the integral educative model (final poll) showed that 33 teenagers were very satisfied 54.09% and 27 said they were satisfied 44.26%. In terms of the attention received 33 expressed that it had been very good 54.09% and 24 that it had been good 39.34%.
When the results of both polls were compared, it was possible to observe an improvement on the satisfaction of the medical care received 54 % vs. 25% as well as on the interpersonal attention received 54% vs. 18% after the application of the integral educative model there was a significant statistic difference (p= 0.001).
