ABSTRACT
Attempts at cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) have been done since ancient times, but only during the last 40 years it have made on scientific bases. External chest compressions is the best method for managing circulatory arrest. This paper analyzes the variables regarding the in-hospital and out -of-hospital outcome of cardiac arrest. The articles reviewed had contradictory survival and mortality results because they are not based on “Utstein style”. Further, survival percentages of devices to assit circulation as well as pharmacotherapy are compared. We conclude that is necessary to perform a multicenter study in the metropolitan area using standardized criteria such as the “Utstein style”.
