RESUMEN

Los intentos para la reanimación cardiopulmonar (RCP) se remontan desde la antigüedad, pero sólo en los últimos 40 años se ha demostrado científicamente que las compresiones torácicas externas son el mejor método para el tratamiento del paro cardiorrespiratorio. Se analizan las variables que ocurren entre el paro extrahospitalario y el hospitalario, siendo los reportes contradictorios a la mortalidad y sobrevida porque no se aplica el “estilo Utstein” para su verificación. Además, se comparan los porcentajes de sobrevida de las diferentes técnicas de reanimación y la farmacoterapia utilizada. De lo anterior podríamos concluir que es necesario un estudio multicéntrico en los diferentes hospitales del área metropolitana utilizando los mismos criterios (“estilo Utstein”).
