ABSTRACT

Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss is mostly an unexplained and sudden unilateral deafness. In a minority of the patients it is possible to determine a specific cause and give specific treatment. This is a disease that mainly affects the economically active adult population, so it has a great psychological and economic impact. Currently, there is no standardized treatment, so the patient’s prognosis and outcome are highly variable. This study conducted a systematic search of the strongest and updated evidence in the diagnosis and treatment of sudden hearing loss in order to optimize the outcome for the patient.
