ABSTRACT
The idiopathic ulcerative colitis (IUC)is a disease of multifactorial origin, chronic and incurable characterized by
remissions and exacerbations. Despite amplifying the knowledge on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the
intestinal inflammation, its etiology and pathogenesis are unknown. The microRNA (miRNA) are small regions of
RNA of simple chain, non-coding, involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of 30% of the protein codifying
genes. The evidence described stand out the important role of the miRNA as contributors to the susceptibility of the
ICU, noting the importance as means of discovery of the disease mechanisms, its diagnosis and therapeutics.
