ABSTRACT
In the last years the culture
in vitro of multicellular tumor spheroids (MTS) has gained relevance as model of solid tumors. The general structure of MTS clearly mimic the initial stages of solid microtumors formation before vascularization. Therefore, MTS have been employed in migration, invasion and angiogenesis studies. The MTS also resemble to solid tumor in multidrug resistance. In addition, MTS begin to be included in pharmaco-toxicologic tests and in evaluation of novel therapeutic strategies against cancer previously to its application in solid tumors.
