ABSTRACT
Background: gonarthrosis is a frequent disease nowadays due to the aging of the population and the need in this group of patients with better functional ability.
Objective: to deepen on the utility of evaluative scales in patients with gonarthrosis.
Method: this review used Medline, Hinari and Pubmed databases with more than 200 articles on the subject of which 51 were selected.
Development: the most commonly used scales in patients suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee are discussed, which include the ones referred by the sick people. Moreover, it is mentioned to the usefulness of the Rasmussen´s quantitative scale, since it relates very important aspects of the disease that need assessment and evolution. The new classification proposed by the American Knee Society, where for the first time on a scale combined subjective and objective elements as are referenced in the last part of the investigation.
Conclusions: is vital the gradation of patients suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee to determine the results of both conservative and surgical treatment at short and long term; and thus designing effective strategies that respond to patients who suffer from this disease.
