ABSTRACT
Chronic rhinosinusitis is defined as the inflammation of the nasal epithelium and paranasal sinuses for more than 12 weeks. Nowadays it is one of the most frequent chronic diseases in the world. The purpose of this study was to establish the most common causes of rhinosinusitis by means of complete clinical history, nasal endoscopy, CT scan, bacterial cultures and cytology as well as blood cell count and IgE levels. In a sample of 80 adult patients with clinical diagnosis of chronic rhinosinusitis, an observational descriptive, prospective and transversal study was performed. The principal causes found were: anatomic abnormalities of the lateral nasal wall, septal deviation, mucosal inflammation, allergy and bacterial infections.
