ABSTRACT
Objective: Demonstrate the experience of the Breast and Radiotherapy Unit of Oncology Service from Hospital General de Mexico in the management of Breast Cancer with Conservative Surgery.
Design: Clinic, retrospective, no comparative.
Patients and Methods: From January 1994 to June 1999 we review all patients with Stages 0, I, II, breast cancer treated by conservative surgery and radiation therapy. Excluding patients with follow-up less than 6 months and incomplete records.
Results: We performed 49 breast conservative surgery excluding 3 patients. There were 2 systemic recurrences. The median follow-up was 26 months. No evidence of disease survival was 95% and overall survival was 83% at 5 years.
Conclusion: These 5 year results were at least equivalent to reported series of similarly staged patients treated by mastectomy. The cosmetic results were good to excellent in 83%.
