ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is the principle malignant neoplasia in children and it is a heterogeneous disorder, because of its clinical, morphological, immunophenotypic and cytogenetic characteristics. The objectives were to assess the distribution and frequency of immunophenotypic and clinical features in a group of pediatric patients.
Material and methods: 110 patients were analyzed, both genders, and children under 15 years old with immunophenotypic diagnosis of Lymphoblastic Acute Leukemia.
Results: The average age was of 7.7 years old, the average leukocyte count was of 56,100/mm3, bone pain was present in 75% of the cases and the highest degree of infiltration was observed in the T cells. The frequency of ALL Pre-B common or CD10+ was of 92%, Pre-B CD10- (1.8%), B cells (1.8%), T cells (6.4%) and biphenotypic (2.7%) and myeloid aberrancy occurred in greater proportion in group pre-B common.
Conclusion: The initial clinical manifestation in this study group was bone pain; the mean age at diagnosis was higher than the national average, well as the presence of hyperleukocytosis. Immunophenotypic characteristics of the diverse pre-B predominated common, which differs from previous reports.
