ABSTRACT
Sleep disorders in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients are very frequent. Nightime or nocturnal symptoms are one of
the most common problems and which are underdiagnosed.
Objective: to determine the relation betwwwn nightime
symptoms in PD patients and the polysomnography findings.
Material y methods: consecutive patients with PD
treated at the National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery were included. SCOPA-Sleep was applied and overnight
videopolysomnography was performed.
Results: 71 patients with PD were included. When comparing the scale
scores of nocturnal symptoms with polysomnographic alterations only the percentage of sleep efficiency and latency
of onset correlated. Other manifestations such as nighttime awakenings were not confirmed objectively.
Conclusions:
Despite the usefulness of clinical tools for diagnosis of sleep disorders, many nightime symptoms do not correlate
with the polysomnographic findings.
