ABSTRACT
Background: In order to achieve more pregnancies at the National Institute of Perinatology in Mexico City, a novel sperm selection technique is been used. PICSI uses hyaluronic acid selection of spermatozoids without DNA fragmentation. This method conveys better fertilization, embryo cleavage and more pregnancies.
Objective: To know fertility rate at INPer when using PICSI technique as method of assisted reproduction.
Patients and method: A retrospective and observational study was made using records of patients who were submitted to PICSI technique as assisted reproduction method from october 2010 to April 2011.
Results: 23 patients were identified, 119 embryos were obtained using this technique, quality of embryos transferred was: I: 8; II: 18; III: 6, obtaining 10 pregnancies and 13 non pregnancies; 43.4% of pregnancies.
Conclusions: Results are very encouraging, because with PICSI technique a rate of 43.4% of pregnancies is observed.
