The influence of the catheter used (semi-rigid vs hyper-flexible) for the transfer of embryos day 2 in the proportion of pregnancy in patients in cycle of in vitro fertilization

ABSTRACT
Background: The embryo transference is considered a limiting step for the success of assisted reproduction techniques.
Objective: To determine if the kind of catheter used for the embryo transfer in day two of development (semi-rigid or hyper flexible) influences the possibility of pregnancy in women with cycle of fertilization with
in vitro technique.
Material and method: A study made in the Mexican Infertility Institute (IMI). We included patients in cycle of fertilization
in vitro. The oocytes were fertilized by an intracytoplasmic injection of sperm (ICSI). The embryos were placed in the uterine cavity in the second day of development under the echographic guide. They were distributed in random way in two groups: Group I: The embryo transfer was made with Frydman set an abdominal transductor 5 MHz. Group II: hyperflexible catheter (Kitazato) and abdominal transductor. The embryo transfer was made by the same doctor in all cases. It was made by SPSS10, using central and dispersion tendency measures. We used
t Student to elevate the statistical probability considering the
p ‹ 0.05 with significant value.
Results: 77 women participated in the ICSI cycle, divided in two groups according to the catheter used for the embrionary transference. Group I: (42 women) (Frydman set). Group II: (35) Kitazato canule. In 52% of them there were found two or more factors in the infertility aetiology. 12/42 got pregnant from group I (28.6%) and 9/35 (25.7%) in group II.
Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the pregnancy proportion between the groups.
