ABSTRACT
The fractures that affect the lower cervical spine, in specifically the vertebra of transition or segment C3, are a rare type of injury in the literature, in the series of Allen and Fergurson they describe injury of lower cervical spine for flexo compression mechanism with presentation of 22 %, being the most affected segment C5, most of the patients experiences certain degree of neurological associate injury.
The aim of the present work of investigation is to contribute with our experience in the treatment of the injuries of the segment of transition C3 for mechanism of injury type whiplash, with a follow-up case of 24 months, with detection of expected complications for this type of injury and current favorable evolution.
There is performed an extensive search of articles of review on this pathology, in databases of PubMed, MEDLINE and the search engine OVID, of which the obtained results are compared and there are identified the principal sequels of this suffering.
