ABSTRACT
The social, physical, psychological and economic impact of osteoporotic fractures in women, after the devastating loss of bone mass, have been recently considered as an important subject for basic and clinical investigation. As the mean value of life has extended in the last decades, and in the past the hormone replacement therapy was not prescribed as it occurred today, the casuistics of fractures are considered as a health world problem.
The men also lives more and they are also able to develop this disease related to the age, so osteoporosis becomes more frequently in this gender. However the differences between women and men are obviously very clear. More women may develop bone mass deficiency. The Leydig cells in men did not have an abrupt disruption as it happens on the follicular function at the ovary.
The strategy in the diagnosis in men is still a dilemma principally regarding this testicular dysfunction and also the characterization of the values of bone mass density, and biochemical bone markers are not so well established as in women.
In this review, we tried to discuss over the diagnostic by immagenology and hormone procedures and perhaps look into de the differences between male and female patients.
