ABSTRACT
Introduction. Partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection (PAPVC) is defined as the connection of one or more, but not all, pulmonary veins to the right atrium or one of its tributary sites (systemic veins).
Case presentation. Five year-old male patient with deterioration of his functional condition, chronic fatigue and decrease of tolerance to the exercise, reason for which he is taken to specialized consultation and multiple imaging studies.
Discussion. PAPVC physiopathology is given by an increase in the lung flow as consequence of oxygenated blood recirculation through right cavities. In many occasions, it is an incidental asymptomatic finding, especially when the shunt is smaller than 2:1 (Qp/Qs ‹ 2). Magnetic resonance is useful in the diagnoses and in the quantification of the shunt, useful in decisions making.
