Considerations for Gallbladder Disease in Childhood

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The pathology of the gallbladder in childhood is more common in pediatric patients and sector that has some characteristics of presentation. Our review examines various epidemiological, clinical diagnosis and treatment in relation to laparoscopic management.Material and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients treated in our unit over a period of 36 months, for whom the document gallbladder disease. The results were analyzed with descriptive statistics and measures of central tendency.
Results: 25 patients were diagnosed with gallbladder disease, corresponding to 21 females and four males, age range was between 8 and 15 years with a mean of 12.2 years, abdominal ultrasonography in 16 of them reported presence in small multiple stones in the gallbladder. The 25 patients underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and splenectomy was performed in February. We used four ports and 5 ports combined surgery, 22 patients with closed technique approach and three with the Hasson trocar. It describes the anatomical variations of the triangle of Calot, especially the presence of accessory cystic artery in one case a splenectomy was required to expand the port to remove the spleen, there were no conversions, no mortality.
Discussion: In our patients are referred to chronic recurrent abdominal pain with a mean age of 12.2 years, pathologies associated with hematological and endocrine basis, we handle these patients throughout with gallbladder dysfunction corroborated with evidence of Boyd and Profile liver. To create the pneumoperitoneum technique is preferred closed, and our complication rates are similar to those reported in other centers of laparoscopy.
