ABSTRACT
We reviewed the clinical and pathological characteristics in 76 Venezuelan patients with extranodal and extrasplenic non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue ( MALT-lymphomas). Forty (52.6%) were women and 36 (47.4%) male, with ages between 16 and 86 ( median of 51). The most frequent locations were: gastrointestinal ( 45 cases), ocular anexa (8), lungs (7) and salivary glands (6). The clinical manifestations were non specific and varied in accordance to its location. The immunohistochemical studies in 22 cases showed characteristics of B-lymphocytes. We analyzed the histological findings that allow its identification, and the usefulness of specialized techniques in its differentiation with different benign and malignant lesions that simulate them.
