ABSTRACT
Posterior dislocation of the shoulder is a rare entity, it constitutes less than 3% of all types of glenohumeral dislocations. However, this impact could be greater due to the fact that many cases are not diagnosed. Its production mechanism is very often associated with convulsive crisis, although it may be produced by any type of trauma on the shoulder. Diagnosis is usually late and last long humeral head remains out of the glenoides, suffers structural changes which hinder their reduction, that’s why prognosis is in straight relation with the evolution time. It is recommended that acute cases should be treated by closed reduction and rehabilitation, while late cases can be treated through open reduction and tendon transposition, but if the injury on the humeral head is higher than 40% of its surface, the realization of a hemiarthroplasty must be evaluated.
