ABSTRACT
The dissection of cervico-cerebral arteries is a disease process characterized by the detachment of the middle layer or subadventicia of the artery wall, leading to stenosis and occlusion of the lumen or the development of an aneurysm. It represents a major cause of stroke in the young. The current availability of noninvasive diagnostic methods have contributed to the disease is diagnosed more often and out of context previously considered typical. We review the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods and treatment of this condition.
