ABSTRACT
Introduction: There is a treatment discrepancy on distal radial fractures pure and associated with distal ulnar fractures in children from 3 to 17 years of age, between conservative and surgical treatments.
Material and method: Is a cohort, retrospective, prospective, longitudinal, comparative study. Studying 40 patients with distal metaphyseal fracture of pure radio and associated distal ulnar fracture, who attended the National Pediatrics Institute from March 2009, in two groups were performed wrist radiographs in anteroposterior and lateral to their arrival, post-handling and within 3 weeks of treatment, measuring 6 basic radiometric parameters, patients underwent closed reduction and immobilized with plaster braquipalmar apparatus for 6 weeks. The results were analyzed descriptive and inferential statistics (t Student and r Pearson).
Results: Premanipulative: In both groups the observed radiometric direct proportion, group 2 had a significantly higher radial and ulnar variance amplitude Postmanipulation: Both groups had normal radiometric, in 2 weeks Group 2 had significantly greater number of residual deformities.
Discussion: In distal radius fractures: radial extent is the radiometric prognosis for residual deformity, ulnar variance is the radiometric accurately assessing residual deformity, association of distal ulnar fracture affects radiographic stability on the wrist, associated distal ulnar fracture must be treated surgically.
