Transcraneal sonography in the diagnosis of Parkinson disease

ABSTRACT
The advances in Parkinson´s Disease diagnosis are improving the recognition of cases. The transcraneal sonography is a helpful diagnostic tool with a low cost and very good accessibility than shows a
substantia nigra hypetechogenicity in the midbrain that is present in more than 90% of case. This finding has been associated with an increase of iron concentration and with a dysfunction in proteins related with its metabolism. In this paper we present a review of this technique since the very first report in 1995 and all the factors that were been implicate in the hyperechogenicity.
