La sonografía transcraneal, una herramienta útil en el diagnóstico de la enfermedad de Parkinson

RESUMEN
Los avances en el diagnóstico de la enfermedad de Parkinson han permitido un mejor y más temprano reconocimiento de los pacientes que la padecen. La sonografía transcraneal es una herramienta muy útil, de fácil acceso y bajo costo que permite el reconocimiento de una hiperecogeneicidad de la sustancia negra en más del 90% de los pacientes; este hallazgo se asocia con la presencia de un incremento en la concentración de hierro y con una disfunción de varias proteínas relacionadas con el metabolismo de este metal. Presentamos una revisión de esta novedosa técnica desde el primer reporte en 1995 , y los factores que se han asociado a la hiperecogeneicidad.
