+ ATPase activity is a crucial enzyme responsible for the active transport of sodium and potassium ions. It is involved in neurochemical events due to internal or external ions and different molecules, including oxygen and nitrogen metabolism of free radicals. Free radicals mainly induce to oxidative stress, DNA damage and cell death, and it is possible that Na
+, K
+ ATPase could be a logical candidate to evaluate some of those effects as a marker of oxidative stress in brain as it is shown in the present review.
