ABSTRACT
Aim: To determine the level of user satisfaction and identify some related characteristics.
Methods: Cross-sectional design. Eight states of the Mexican Republic were chosen. The expected proportion of satisfaction was 50 %. Satisfaction was measured with a validated instrument. Demographic characteristics were also included.
Results: A total of 1692 users of family medicine clinics were studied. 67.8 % were female. The average age was 35.8 years and 71.2 % were married; 80.1 % went to the clinic fewer than nine times in the last 6 months. The most important dissatisfaction area was drug service (50.3 %). Characteristics related with dissatisfaction (p ‹ 0.05) were user aged 34 and less, single users, fewer than three clinic visits in 6 months, and an insured period of less than 1 year.
Conclusions: The proportion of dissatisfied subjects must be considered for increasing quality of medical services.
