ABSTRACT
Breast cancer in Mexican women occupies second place of mortality for oncology problems. Main treatment is surgical and the anesthesiologist is an important part of the surgical team during perioperatory stage and plays an important role in the sick person’s well-being. The fundamental objective of this work was to inform on the anesthetic community, the general characteristics of anesthetics handling in a specialized hospital to allow them to have a reference pattern when they manage similar cases at adscribed units. The design of the study was case series from 102 files of the Hospital de Oncología, Centro Médico Nacional Siglo XXI, IMSS. Perioperatory mortality was 0 %, its RAQ ASA was type II, in 77.7 % and most frequent coexistent systemic illnesses were high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus. A total 100 % were managed with general anesthesia, with non-invasive monitoring in 92 %. Hemorrhages averaged 253 mL. Anesthesia time was 186.5 min and stay in recovery room was 121 min. Analgesia for postoperative pain were AINES in 100 % and partial narcotic agonists as a complement in 38 %.
