ABSTRACT
The trend to globalization regarding different aspects of economy and society, such as labour and education have created the need to link more the demands of the work with the education. The UNESCO has implied the point of supporting permanent education and the construction of accurate institutions for contributing to the cultural, social, and economic development of the society’s knowledge. There are different definitions of competence but it can be stated that it is a group made up of knowledge, skills, and behavior applied to solving concrete work situations. Medicine is not far from these trends and it also takes part in the proper methodology of the medical education based on competences. Medical education competences-based is a strong support of the educational model of the Hospital General of Mexico. On this paper we make a review of the features that highlight the development of competences in education and its view on medical education.
