Educación médica basada en competencias

RESUMEN
La tendencia a la mundialización de diferentes aspectos de la economía y sociedad, entre ellos los laborales y educativos, hace necesario que se vinculen más estrechamente las necesidades del mercado de trabajo con la enseñanza. La Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (UNESCO) explicita el objetivo de propiciar el aprendizaje permanente y la construcción de las competencias adecuadas para contribuir al desarrollo cultural, social y económico de la sociedad del conocimiento. Existen diferentes definiciones de competencia, y una de las más representativas es el conjunto de saberes, cualidades y comportamientos puestos en juego para resolver situaciones concretas de trabajo. La medicina no es ajena a esas tendencias y también participa de toda la metodología inherente a la educación médica basada en competencias. El Modelo Educativo del Hospital General de México tiene como uno de sus pilares a la educación médica basada en competencias. En el presente documento se hace una revisión puntual de los atributos que enmarcan el desarrollo de competencias en la educación y su enfoque en la educación médica.
