ABSTRACT
Objective: To know the frequency of different types of strabismus in the Ophthalmology Service of the Hospital General de México.
Material and method: 123 patients were included and classified in: primary strabismus, secondary strabismus, special, paralytic, postoperative and others. The information by means of percentages was analyzed.
Results: There was 73.98% of primary strabismus (46.23% presented esotropia and 27.64% exotropia). Congenital esotropia was presented in 28.46%, secondary strabismus in 8.94%, paralytic in 5.69%, both the Special and Nystagmus blockade syndrome in 4.06% and postsurgical in 3.25%.
Conclusions: The esotropias continued to be the most frequent type of strabismus; however the cases of congenital esotropia had decreased.
