Propofol is a new lipid-soluble anaesthetic agent which has a wide margin of safety and possess few side effects. It induces smooth induction to anaesthesia, as well as recovery from it and is rapidly metabolized. Continuous intravenous infusion has been suggested as a form of long-therapy and safe anaesthesia in dogs substituting inhaled agent anaesthesia. Under this condition, propofol produces a safe and agile anaesthesia with rapid recovery and almost no adverse drug reactions. This paper and includes the clinical experience of 60 anaesthetic evaluations in this species using a continuous intravenous infusion of this drug.
