ABSTRACT
Surgery is a critical experience for both the patient and the surgeon and any surgical procedure carries some risks. Medical errors are the 8
th cause of death in the US. Human error is unavoidable and health care systems and surgeons should adopt the culture of error analysis openly, inquisitively and permanently. To present a case of textiloma, how it was managed, and to review the literature, to raise awareness in the medical community of the latent risk in spite of effective measures. The sole complete count is not an absolute guarantee that no gauze has been left in the patient.
