ABSTRACT
AIM. Identify etiology and risk factors associated to infections in the Dermato-Oncology Unit of the General Hospital of Mexico. Methods: From June to October of the 2008, 672 patients were operated, of which 515 attented to review after surgery; 16 patients suffered infection of the surgical place, who registered the following variables: age, gender, date of surgery, days after surgery, risk factors of the patient, besides kind of wound, kind of surgery realized, surgeons who realized the procedure, the anatomic place of surgery, time of surgery, preoperative hair removal, perisurgical hospitalization are factors that were also evaluated. Subsequently an exudate culture of wound was realized, obtaining like this, the microorganism of infection and antimicrobial sensitivity besides a nasal exudate of the health personnel from the procedures room was taken too, to correlate with infections presented by patients. Results: The infection incidence was of 3.1%, finding risk factors associated in 35.29%, of which the most frequent was the smoking habit with a 40%. The most frequent germ found was the Staphylococcus aureus in 31.25%. The 11.11% of the health personnel was nasal carrier of this germ, and they were the most associated to postsurgical infections. Conclusion: The tobacco smoking was the main factor associated to postsurgical infections. The state of nasal carrier of Staphylococcus aureus does not play an important paper in the incidence of infections.REFERENCES
