ABSTRACT
Acrylic resins for denture bases must have a good dimensional stability during
staying in the oral environment. Currently, with resin processing through
microwaves it has been achieved to obtaining a better adaptability compared
with the thermocuring method (compression). The objective was to observe the
dimensional changes on 3 different brands of acrylic bases: Acron MC processed
through microwave; Veracryl and Nic Tone, processed through thermocuring
(compression). Thirty upper toothless models were made on which prosthesis
base was waxed. They got flasked, unwaxed and processed according to
manufacturer’s directions; obtaining this way, 10 samples of acrylic bases of
each brands previously mentioned. Afterwards, they were sectioned,
microscopically observed and photographed. Then, they were projected and an
amplified image, was obtained on which the separation between acrylic and cast
was rule-measured. In order to find out the difference among curing methods,
an ANOVA test was used. Getting a p = 0.0604. Proving that there is no
statistically significant difference between microwave Owen-polymerized acrylic
resins and the thermocuring method-polymerized resins (compression), was
achieved. However clinically the procedure through a microwave Owen showed
better results in regards to dimensional stability, plus counts as a quick,
clean and cheap method.
