ABSTRACT
Allergic rhinitis is frequently under-recognized. Persistent or chronic allergic rhinitis more accurately describes the chronic nature of much allergic rhinitis. The chronic symptoms have a considerable impact on quality of life and productivity in all ages. They are strongly linked to comorbidities such as sinusitis, otitis media and the development of asthma. This underlines the need for chronic and continuous treatment to prevent and alleviate symptoms and to reduce the burden of disease in our patients. The precise knowledge of the pathophysiology is very important to really understand the chronic changes in the upper airway.
